Ongoing Research
Since June 2015, IRES students have been conducting research to evaluate the performance, nutrient recovery, and biomethane potential of an anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) and constructed wetlands receiving wastewater from ~ 80 homes in the Newlands-Mashu area of Durban. The treated effluent is reused for agricultural production, and research on water reuse to grow crops such as bananas is also underway.
